Many hands make light work!
We are always in the need of volunteers and as the familiar adage says, “Many hands make light work”! There are many opportunities to help out from that vary in time commitment, so please contact any board member if you are interested in volunteering.
Opportunities to volunteer
Members are encouraged to volunteer as off-ice officials for games (score keepers-score sheet, Pointstreak; score clock attendants; penalty box attendants), tournament volunteers, or CAHC committee members.
Here is what you need to do to register as a volunteer:
1. Register as a volunteer with USA Hockey here. Print out a copy of your USA Hockey registration confirmation for your records in case proof of registration is needed.
2. Complete the SafeSport training if appropriate (for any volunteer interested in assisting with player supervision). This is a biannual USA Hockey requirement. The online SafeSport training session is about 90 minutes long. It is organized into segments of 10-15 minutes, so the online training does not need to be completed in one session. Please click here to access the SafeSport online training. For future reference, please click here for the SafeSport manual. Print out a copy of your SafeSport certificate for your records in case proof of completion is needed. SafeSport training needs to be completed prior to a volunteer being allowed to supervise players in any capacity.
3. Register for background screening if appropriate (for any volunteer interested in assisting with player supervision). This is a biannual USA Hockey, Wyoming Amateur Hockey League (WAHL), and CAHC policy requirement. There may be a charge for this screening (price dictated per WAHL). Print out a copy of your receipt upon completion and keep it for your records in case proof of completion is needed. Please click here to access the background screening.
Scorekeeping and Pointstreak
Volunteering to score keep for games is a great way to help out. All games require scorekeeping and it is a great way to learn about the sport of hockey. For our divisions that participate in the Wyoming Amateur Hockey League (WAHL), a statistics program is also used called Pointstreak. WAHL uses Pointstreak Hockey Statistics software to provide up-to-date scores, stats, and schedules. Pointstreak software uses an electronic version of the traditional hockey score sheet, which is instantly broadcasted online. CAHC is required to use a traditional paper scores sheet as well as the Pointstreak electronic score sheet for all WAHL games hosted by CAHC. To learn about Pointstreak, please review the Pointstreak tutorial or refer to the WAHL Pointstreak handbook. For more information or training regarding Pointstreak, please contact your Age Representative, Team Manager, or the CAHC Pointstreak Representative.
